Our Dog Birthday Cake Recipe
We love celebrating Lily's birthday by making her something extra special. This is a really good recipe that is easy to slice up and share with any other doggy friends that are invited over for tea. You can also decorate it easily so that the cake looks appealing and appetising...though Lily, of course, doesn't really care what it looks like as long as it tastes delicious!
300g (11oz) minced lamb
200g (7 oz) flour
50g (2 oz) oats
50g (2 oz) ground sunflower seeds
100g (4 oz) cottage cheese
2 eggs, beaten
150g (5 oz) low-fat cream cheese
100g (4 oz) Cheddar cheese slices, cut into small squares
1 tbsp finely chopped parsley
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F/gas 4). Lightly grease a 20cm (8 in) round cake tin.
2. Stir the minced lamb, flour, oats, ground sunflower seeds, cottage cheese and eggs into a bowl and mix together well.
3. Spoon the mixture into the prepared cake tin and bake the cake in the oven for about 45 minutes, until it is cooked through. Remove the cake from the oven, leave to stand for a few minutes and then remove from the tin and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
4. 'Ice' the top of the cooled cake with low-fat cream cheese. Use the Cheddar cheese squares to decorate the top of the cake, then sprinkle over the chopped parsley.
